Guide to Copenhagen: Smagsløget

Right in the heart of Nørreport, yet far from the bustling crowd, stands a humble deli by the name of Smagsløget. It’s not a place you’d easily stumble upon but don’t be fooled by the modest exterior - what it houses is a real gem. As the go-to lunch spot for locals, it is easy to see why it’s so popular: Delicious sandwiches in huge portions, all at wallet-friendly prices.

The menu is vast and choices range from classic favourites to more innovative pairings. I’m always spoilt for choice whenever I go there. The sandwich itself is massive, sure enough to satisfy. Apart from genius flavour combinations, I also love the clever way they serve their enormous sandwiches.

So the next time you’re in town with a hankering for a sandwich, head to Smagsløget and you’ll leave as a very happy person. My favourites are the oven-baked barbecque chicken with guacamole or the turkey and cheddar with chilli pesto. Tip: It gets extremely busy at lunch time, so you might have to wait. What I like to do is to place my order, go for a short walk around Nørreport, then come back and pick it up. Bonus tip: They give a student discount so be sure to flash your student card if you have one!
