Every now and then when I’ve biked down Stefansgade, I’ve passed a bright blue van. There is always quite a line outside it and there is always a good smell when I pass. A while ago, I finally had time to stop and actually try the food. The small restaurant in the van is called Yuca Taco, and the man behind the van (or inside the van, I guess) is called Jon. He started Yuca Taco in the beginning of this year, after quite some travel in South- and Middle America.

You don’t need to look very long at the menu card outside Yuca Taco. There are usually only two different tacos to choose from. The filling might change from time to time, but the concept is the same. Rather a few good ingredients, which are well prepared, than lots and lots of filling. Jon prepares everything during the week. Monday and Tuesday he works to get everything ready, and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday he drives around town and parks different places. And so far the people in Copenhagen seem to like the concept.

You can get one taco for 25 dkk, and three for 70 dkk. One is a really good small snack, three are a really good big snack, but probably a bit too small to be able to count as a full meal. However, if you compare three tacos to any other fast food – a burger, a slice of pizza or maybe a hotdog, there is no doubt – Jon’s tacos are definitely better. I would be the first one to celebrate, if Copenhagen can get a van or two more like this one.

The location changes every day - check Yoca Taco at Facebook to know where the van is this week.

25 dkk for one taco, 70 dkk for three. 30 dkk for something to drink.
