Say hi to the most Instagrammed café in Copenhagen this summer – Parterre at Christianshavn. The small café opened in the beginning of the summer this year, and the amazing light and pretty furniture immediately caught the eye of various Instagrammers in town. That’s how I found out about it as well. Suddenly everyone seemed to have their morning coffee there – even people that usually don’t hang out at Christianshavn.

Yesterday I finally got an opportunity to try it out. My friend Melissa visited from Sweden, and we had decided to meet for breakfast. Parterre opens early in the morning and has several different breakfast-orianted dishes at their menu, so it was the perfect choice. We both went for coffee and a croissant, with some juice and different bread and cheese on the side.

A few years ago I used to work at Christianshavn, and always thought that I missed a good place for coffee there. I told the owner of the café about my thought after our breakfast, and he agreed. He has started the café together with his son. None of them have a background inside the café or restaurant business. His son is a lawyer, and he is a schoolteacher. Different reforms in the Danish school system made him consider another business, and when his son asked if they should open a café together, he said yes, and a few months later Parterre opened up.

After my first visit at Parterre, I must admit – this café seems to have it all. The owner is nice. The coffee and breakfast is good. It opens before most other cafés in town – and the interior design could fit any interior magazine you know. I definitely understand the hype at Instagram.
