The evening started out in the cinema. The Film Critic Guy and I saw ‘Whiplash,’ a movie about a drummer dreaming and playing his way to the top. It was the first time I saw it. The Film Critic Guy had seen it once already, and after reading his review of it, I immediately agreed when he asked if we should see it together.

The film was fantastic and when it was over, a few minutes after midnight, we decided that there was only one place to go: Kind of Blue. Kind of Blue, a bar at Ravnsborggade in Nørrebro, is decorated with lighted candles, fog on the windows and walls covered with black and white photos of great musicians, such as Bob Dylan and Miles Davis. What could be better after seeing a movie about the music industry?

We biked from the cinema in pouring rain, crossing our fingers and hoping that we’d find some empty chairs in the bar. Kind of Blue is always crowded, and you need to be quite lucky to find a seat. The first three times that I planned on spending my evening there, I had to turn around and go elsewhere because it was full.

On summer nights, the sidewalk outside is just as crowded as the bar itself, and it’s not hard to understand why. However, if you’re looking for a party, you’ve ended up in the wrong place. Kind of Blue is all about good atmosphere, which makes it perfect for hanging out with friends or maybe even a date. It’s also about amazing music. Like Kind of Blue.
