Considering the amounts of time I’ve visited Stefanshus, it’s odd that there isn’t a review of it here already. Of all the bars I visit in Copenhagen, this is probably the one I pop by most frequently. It’s close to where I live, but that’s not the major reason. It’s the atmosphere that does it.

If you’re a serious beer lover, Stefanshus is probably not your favorite bar in town. However, the bar has other qualities. I know that it’s a brave move, but I sometimes compare this place to the café in the tv-show Friends, where Monica, Rachel and the other guys always are hanging out in New York. Because this is one of those places where people come and just hang out. Where big groups of friends go for beer. Several times when I’m here early in the evening, people are bringing pizza from the neighbor pizza place and share slices over a beer or two while sitting and talking.

Later in the evenings it usually gets more crowded, with all seats taken, people sitting in the windows and standing around. Stefanshus has several pool tables, and there are always some game going on. If you’re a big fan of playing, the back room is the perfect place for you, with all kinds of different games - pool, billiard, table football…

I adore this place. It’s relaxed and you immediately fell at home. Old wooden tables, candles, kind of dark. It’s a bit old school, and it probably hasn’t changed for quite some years. But who cares? I like it just the way it is, and for the odd mixture of people – pool players, group of friends, a few hipsters here and there, men drinking beer and watching football. It’s a great mixture.
